This photo is of the Monarch after emerging from the chrysalis. It was such an exciting day! I was so in awe of how beautiful it was, and grateful for the experience of raising it!
This particular Monarch is a male. Male Monarchs have dots on their hind wings. The dot is hard to see when the wings are closed, but if you look very carefully, on the seventh line from the top of its hind wing, you can see a little bump in the black line. I had the pleasure of raising both a male and female monarch when I was researching monarchs for Millie. If you've never raised a caterpillar, I highly recommend trying it! It is truly a miraculous metamorphosis to behold!
